IGBWE FOUNDATION Commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day; Donates To Eleme Basic School

A non profit organization, I Believe Global women empowerment (IGBWE) has commemorated this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day by donating sanitary pads to the pupils of Eleme Basic School in the Ketu North Municipal of the Volta Region. This was done on behalf of the organization by Mr. Mac Thompson Gbeti one of the board members.

This year’s theme is ‘’To create a world where no woman or girl is held back because they menstruate, by 2030’’.ÂThe organization with the help of Health Professionals from the Sovie CHPS, took the opportunity to educate the young girls on how to manage and handle themselves during that time of the month.

Engaging further with the students, Ms Elikplim, one of the health professionals took her time to enlighten the girls on the need and benefits of keeping their bodies clean during their menstrual period and also encouraged the boys to be supportive to their mothers and sisters when they have their monthly period. The interaction saw both teachers and pupils have a great and in-depth understanding of the day.

Expressing his gratitude, the headteacher of the school, Mr. Nelson Ahordo, lauded this initiative by IGBWE and on behalf of the staff and pupils appealed for such more gestures from other stakeholders as he bemoaned the increasing spate at which some of the girls tend to give themselves out to older men because they cant afford some of their basic needs.

Mr Mac Thompson Gbeti, who presented the items on behalf of the organization also called for more education for young girls, particularly, those in the rural areas since the myths surrounding menstruation still persists.
