The International Conference on Gender Equality 2024 (ICGE-24) is almost here, and all our experts, policymakers, and gender and women’s empowerment activists are all getting ready to share our unique stories on November 26th and 27th , 2024 at the Accra International Conference Centre, Osu.
The International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE) hosts a group of global leaders in a developing country each year to proactively find practical measures to
address the intractable issues of gender inequality in order to meet SDG-5. It is hosted by I Believe Global Foundation which is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and Ghana. I Believe Global Foundation is under the leadership of Mr. Yaw Henaku, Rachel Akosua Lundgren, Dr. Emmanuel Ayifah, Sarbina Mensah, and Professor Smile Dzisi. I Believe Global Foundation works with local partners such as SEND Ghana, Technical Universities, as well as other public universities to achieve its conference outcomes for the particular year.
Following the groundbreaking success of our inaugural event in 2023, ICGE-23, we are thrilled to make ICGE-24 even grander as we gather world-class experts, thought leaders, policymakers, and advocates from across the globe to extend our game-changing dialogue on gender equality to include more seminal topics.
The theme for this year’s conference is “From vision to reality: Catalyzing Sustainable Gender Equality in Developing Economies”.We believe this theme resonates with the theme of the 2024 International Women’s Day recognised by UN Women all over the globe: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”.
In today’s rapidly evolving global landscape, empowering women is not only a matter of social justice and equality but also a crucial economic strategy. Developing countries must recognize that investing in women’s empowerment is one of the most effective ways to accelerate sustainable development, boost economic growth, and create resilient societies.
The empowerment of women has far-reaching benefits across multiple dimensions of development:
- Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction: Women represent half of the world’s population, yet they remain underutilized in many developing By investing in women’s education, entrepreneurship, and workforce participation, countries can significantly boost their GDP. Studies have shown that closing the gender gap in labor markets could add trillions to the global economy. Empowered women are more likely to invest in their families, communities, and businesses, helping to lift entire populations out of poverty.
- Health and Well-being: Empowered women have better access to healthcare and education, leading to improved family health, reduced maternal mortality, and better child nutrition. Women’s autonomy in decision-making is directly linked to healthier families and communities, as they prioritize access to healthcare, education, and nutrition for their
Just as we did last year, this year’s conference will center the discussions on how we could work together to advance Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG-5) which is achieving gender equality, in our countries.
A recent study by UN Women estimates that closing the gender gap will boost world economic results by a whooping US$7trillion! This imperative, as well as additional surveys by the World Bank and the IMF establish that investing more in women’s empowerment and inclusion is the best strategy ( in addition to other continuing measures) to expanding our national economic outcomes in Ghana, and in other developing countries.
Investing in women’s empowerment in any organization is good for business, as women’s unique ways of solving problems present an alternative world-view which leads to greater productivity
and better business results. Empowered women are rescued from poverty, which is great for any country.
Ghana is the evident choice for this international event because of its staunch commitment to gender equality and its great cultural landscape. Accra International Conference Center is arguably still the best place to host events of this pedigree, and that has informed our decision to host this lifetime event at this venue.
